Abstract
Since the beginnings of semantic structuralism; and in particular since the publication of the writings of Bemard Pottier and Uriel Weinreich; a good dictionary; it has been stressed; should be able to include feature analysis; or sememe analysis; in the lexicographic definition of every included word. In this discussion I propose to contrast the results of feature analysis of some words with the definition of these words in a dictionary; with the intent to demonstrate the inherent limitations in the structuralist proposal. The result will be to highlight the role of the text and the reconstruction of the word’s meaning as lexicographic events that overcome the proposals of semantic structuralism.
