Abstract
The works of Francisco Clavijero (1731-1787) and Crisostomo Naxera (1803-1853) two of the most recognized amerindian linguists are contrasted in this article. Taking into consideration the present debate among the scientific community and based on its results; areas considered original in their works are pointed out. Both; Clavijeo and Naxera share and cultivate the values created by a tradition that reaches well beyond their times and individual differences: the study of the Nahuatl language.
