Dialectología y enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera

José G. Moreno de Alba

Abstract

In this article the author gives a broad oven’iew of the different ways Spanish is spokenand appeals for greater objectivity with regard to the norm for the spoken language.Due to what the author considers a “lack of imagination"; the Academia Española continues to establish the way in which Spanish should be spoken in the Spanish -speaking world; a very broad and diversified world; a diversity which is found even withinthe borders of Spain itself. He then refers to the stucturalist concept of diasystem. He gives a brief outline of U. Weinreich 's concept of language as something abstract and goes on to speak of language as a body containing three main idiolects;  the diacronic; the diatopic and the diastratic. Using these arguments he shows that it is impossible to teach a “total” Spanish. The author also mentions the dialectical articulation index and the concept of a common nucleus; and he offers his pedagogical proposals for teaching Spanish based on these same concepts.
