Los clíticos pronominales p'urhépecha
Abstract
A study of the pronominal morphological system is limited here to the processes and morphemes present in the indicative mode. Three sets of morphemes referring to one or two persons cooccurre in a sentence. One set belongs to the flexion; the two others to the clitic. Their relation of coordination or noncoordination indicates the person of the subject and the object pronouns. An alternative analysis given by Mary LeCron Foster (1969; 1971) accounts for the data in a simpler manner. I argue however that the analysis of the pronominal system presented here is more coherent with the processes observed in the language.
