Un estudio sobre la competencia interactiva de estudiantes hispanohablantes de portugués como lengua extranjera

Helena María Da Silva Gomes

Abstract

This paper reports on a study which examines the interactive competence of six Mexican university students of Portuguese as a foreign language. This competence is defined as procedural knowledge expressed through the use of the interactive strategies necessary to participate collaboratively in oral comunication. Interactive competence covers two main subsets of strategies: (a) discourse interactive strategies; which are interpersonal procedures used to participate actively and to sustain conversation; (b) referencial interactive strategies ; which are linguistic compensatory devices used to express the propositional content of utterances in comunication. The data are based on the análisis of six twenty minute audiotaped conversational segments between each student and two native teachers of Portuguese. The results are discussed in relation to Interlanguage Theory and Discourse Theory of SLA.
