Investigaciones sobre el papel de las percepciones socioculturales y lingüísticas en la enseñanza de idiomas
Abstract
A lack of empirical research exists on cultural/linguistic perceptions of teachers and students in the field of teaching English as a foreign language. This article will discuss the diverse areas that form the line of intercultural research presently being developed in the Department of Applied Linguistics; CELE; UNAM. These areas of research include: sociocultural perceptions of teachers; including metaphorical images of culture; English students ’ attitudes toward the cultures of native speakers of English; Spanish students ’ attitudes toward the cultures of native speakers of Spanish. The final goal of this discussion is to report on the findings of these areas that aid in reaching pedagogical decisions for foreign language study programs.
