Abstract

In this paper we will introduce the project Design and Development of Video And Multimedia Programs for the Teaching of Foreign Languages in the UNAM. The purpose of this project is to give support to self-access learning and teaching of foreign languages by designing didactic materials in both video and multimedia. We will also mention the institutional background where the program was first created and its theoretical framework from two different perspectives: the design of teaching materials and the librarianship approach. In addition to the methodological features that conducted the project; each stage in the process i.e. the design; production;
the use and evaluation of each of the four video programs; will be described. These video programs promote the effective use of the dictionary in four languages: German; French; Italian and Portuguese. Furthermore; a description of a multimedia program that encourages the development of strategies in users of a mediateca is included. Finally; some advantages in the use of video programs in the language class are discussed.
