La regularización de lo arbitrario (El caso de Ciudad Juárez)

Margarita Palacios Sierra

Abstract

Dogmatic experience establishes with all its domination related networks; privileges; contradictions and injustices which are the necessary conditions for practicing; with toleration; gender discrimination under intolerable living conditions. These socio-cultural and evaluative categories are self perpetuating; thanks to memory; with its recurrent linguistic patterns. The analysis of semantic and grammatical structures in 36 interviews carried out concerning the murders in Ciudad Juarez between July and October 2002 to both men and women (ages 18 to 60) living in Mexico City with a high school education; lets us demonstrate that acquired socio-cultural values repeat themselves linguistically; with the same paradigms and syntagmatic frequencies to designate an event in Mexican society. The word is constructed in discourse; a category that possesses the virtue of designating at the same time; a social unit and the place where that unit takes place. In these structures there is a work of symbolic construction that is not only reduced to the strict operation of naming; rather it is an incorporation of dominant social relationships.
