La interpretación de distinciones aspectuales por parte de alumnos del inglés como segunda lengua

Marilyn Buck

Abstract

Research into the acquisition of verbal aspect seeks to determine the role of lexical aspect in the development of the use of grammatical morphology; however, what has not been studied is the role it may play in the perception and interpretation of aspectual contrasts, as part of the process of acquisition of aspect. Based on these considerations, a study was carried out in order to obtain information as to the perception and interpretation of aspectual distinctions of the English present tense by Spanish-speaking learners. The methodology consisted of a written interpretation test and introspective techniques. The results showed that the interpretations were based principally on factors related to the lexical content of the verb, and, in this way, the lexical or inherent aspect, disregarding the meaning associated with the grammatical morphology.
