Análisis del procesamiento del léxico en inglés en lectores universitarios principiantes

Pauline Moore Hanna, Sofía B. Argumedo López

Abstract

Models of lexical access have been Developer and tested on the basis of evidence from artificial laboratory type research techniques; like priming. This article reports data from a multiple case study of the university readers at the beginner level. To observe the reading process; verbal reports of think aloud protocols were used. The reader’s level was established using the University of Oxford’s Quick Placement Test (QPT). The article firstly describes current models of lexical access; then; the lexical access behavior shown by the participants. Finally; the fit between the models and the reader’s behavior is evaluated. In order to explain the data; it would seem necessary to modify the models; principally; to emphasize the participation of phonological information in the organization f the beginner’s mental lexicon. Evidence also points to the greater validity of models which do not require the achievement of meaning as a necessary endpoint in the process of lexical access.
