Géneros orales y estilos de narrativa: El desarrollo de la competencia discursiva

Norbert Francis

Abstract

Based on an analysis of a text of the personal narrative type, the study examines aspects of the development of secondary discourses, the continuities and distinctions in relation to primary discourses (of the conversational variety, contextualized in interpersonal verbal interaction). The author takes up the observations and analyses of M. Bajtin and D. Tannen as a frame of reference, as well as a study by J. Hill of a text from the same speech community: bilingual NahuatUSpanish of Puebla and Tlaxcala from the Malintzin region. The study of how oral genres of the formal type, structured to a greater degree, begin to evolve will help us to understand central aspects of the heterogeneity of the discourse competencies, and what is their relationship to the language faculty (grammatical competence) and other non-linguistic faculties that participate in their development (for example in children), and in the performance of mature speakers.
