En busca de las variables más influyentes en el aprendizaje de lengua extranjera

Abstract

This study is aimed at determining which variables exert the greatest influence on the learning of English as a foreign language. A sample of 252 bilingual students in Basque and Spanish completed a questionnaire and carried out a series of tests with a view to measuring the following variables: individual and contextual variables, competence in Spanish, Basque and English, creativity and metalinguistic awareness. Once the results of the two age-groups under study were analysed, it was concluded that the competence in Spanish, competence in Basque and extra-scholastic English class variables were the most significant ones for all the sample students with respect to the competence in English dependent variable.
