Abstract
The present research is an experimental study in the area of Applied Linguistics to foreign languages. This study is carried out with Chilean school students learning English as a foreign language in the classroom. A diagnosis of the student's linguistic competence with respect to prepositions of place is made. In order to do this; instruments ad hoc were made to elicit linguistic data. A quantitative analysis in terms of frequency is made; and a qualitative analysis was made applying error analysis techniques to the corpus.
