Abstract
This paper provides a phonetic description of declarative intonation patterns, including broad-focus, exclamatory, and narrow/contrastive-focus statements. The data were obtained through a discourse completion test that included four participants, all of them native speakers from Guadalajara (two men, two women). The results were compared with Mexico City’s intonation pattern of these statements. Our findings show that broad-focus statements have a nuclear configuration with a mid level tone M% that differs from that of Altiplano Spanish.
