Needs analysis regarding online training of foreign-language teachers in Mexico

Julio César Valerdi Zárate

Abstract

The evolution of educational communication technologies and post-pandemic learning and working dynamics have highlighted the need to develop remote online educational programs. The field of language-teacher training is no exception, as reflected by the context of the National School of Languages, Linguistics and Translation (ENALLT) through the growing demand for training by individuals with training needs that the school cannot meet and which are apparently also not addressed by other institutions in Mexico. In consequence, this paper carried out a needs analysis of the online training and updating programs currently available in Mexico for teachers of English, French and German as foreign languages. This analysis revealed economic, geographic, institutional, training, and linguistic limitations that prevent access to training and updating tools to many teachers from different regions of the country. Knowing these limitations can support decision-making in the development of new online teacher-training proposals under various contexts in Mexico.
