María Esther Elorduy

Abstract

This article deals with a comparative description of the German and Spanish verb systems; particularly in regards to verb forms; tenses and the organization of events. After presenting some general considerations; the article attempts to identify parallels between two systems for describing Spanish verb tenses; the first; based on Bull’s (1965) morphological approach; the second; Weinrich’s (1971) pragma-semantic approach Then; possible correlations with the German tense system are established. Finally; a few thoughts on the relevance for the teaching of German to Spartish-speakers are presented.
