Los errores del marco sintáctico del Modelo Parasitario del léxico en un segundo idioma

Christopher J. Hall, Moya Schultz

Abstract

Errors of syntactic category; subcategorization; thematic grid; and idiosyncratic lexical features (frame’ errors) were analysed from 125 English compositions written by Spanish-speaking learners of English as a second language who placed into basic level courses at a Mexican university. The errors show full support for the Parasitic Model of the second language mental lexicon; which claims that L2 words are generally incorporated into the LI lexicon in a connectionist framework; with non-cognates being connected to the frame representation of a translation equivalent in the LI. The results also support the Triad Model of lexical representation in the first language; which claims that mental knowledge of a word is encoded in a triad of separate representations: form; frame and (non-linguistic) concept.
