Intensión y modus significandi en la Grammatica specultaiva de Thomas de Erfurt

María Eugenia Vázquez Laslop

Abstract

Jan Pinborg calculates that Thomas of Erfurt wrote his Grammatica speculativa around 1300 and 1310 (between Scholasticism and Ockham's nominalism). Thomas was part of the modistae. He constructed his theory from the concept of modus significandi, the way we signify different ways of being of the things; and the correspondance that each of this modus have with the way of being of partes orationis, My claim is that the concept of modus significandi is intensional, but never unbinded to reality. To prove this, I analyse the way Thomas explains name; pronoun and preposition, related to different modi essendi of reality, and intervened by modus intelligendi.
