Variación paramétrica del aspecto verbal

Marilyn Buck, Fulvia Colombo

Abstract

In this paper parametric variation of aspect is contrasted; based on Carlota S. Smith's 1991 proposal. Lexical aspect (Aktionsart) is especially focoused on; as are the distinctive properties of the different situation types in English and Spanish. Present tense simple and progressive verb forms are contrasted in both languages. A corpus was analyzed consisting of 115 sentences in each language; including the different situation types expressed by stative verbs; activities; accomplishments; achievements; and semelfactives. Examples of parametric variation between the two languages were found in the aspectual interpretation of simple present forms; and in the way simple and progressive forms are selected.
