Language impairments associated with a clinical case of Alzheimer’s dementia
Abstract
The present article aims to demarcate and analyze Alzheimer's dementia (AD) based on its associated linguistic deficits. We present the clinical case of a patient from a linguistic approach and an overview of the pathology. We obtained data from the observation, recording, and analysis of linguistic behaviors, collected through semi-directed tasks (from her oral production) and the application of standardized questionnaires. The data indicate that the central nervous system disorders inherent to AD also entail alterations in the networks involved in the correct use of language. This research contributes to the visibility of speech disorders and their rehabilitation, and highlights the role of the clinical linguist in the context of AD.
