Online Submissions

Every paper to be published by ELA should be submitted online. To do so, it is necessary to register or to log in if you already have a username and a password. Once you have logged in, you must select the option New Submission

There is a 5-step process to submit your paper:

Step One: Begin the submission. In this first step, you must specify the section of the journal which is to consider your paper, as well as the language of your submission (Spanish or English). Additionally, you will have to fill out a checklist to ensure your paper meets the necessary criteria.

Step Two: Upload your submission. In this step, you will have to upload your submission which should be in Microsoft Word format (.doc). This document must adhere to the specifications of the stylesheet of the journal including the format that guarantees an anonymous review.

Step Three: Submit metadata.  In this step, you will have to fill out the metadata of the article, such as information about the author or authors, title, abstract, keywords and other data for indexing. This is a very important step so that your author profile and the metadata for indexing are visible on our site and are accessible through the online search engines. As a reference, to help you best choose indexing terms for your article, you can consult the UNESCO Thesaurus.

Step Four: Upload supplementary files. In this step you must upload a) the article in .pdf format and b) any other supplementary file, including tables and figures in the format of the program where they were first created, as well as in an image file.
The PDF version of the article and the image files of the tables and figures are essential in order to have control of the changes that may occur when using different processors as well as maintaining the phonetic characters and others during the editorial process

Step Five: Confirm your submission. In this step, you finalize your submission.

El sistema permite guardar los cambios realizados en cada paso, de modo que es posible dejar un envío inconcluso y retomarlo en otra sesión.

How to Select the Type of Submission and How to Prepare your Paper

Before you submit your paper, you must determine the type of text you want to send in, whether it be an article, a note, a book review or a book notice and prepare your paper by following these considerations.

Characteristics that are expected to be present in the papers submitted to ELA

The papers submitted to ELA for review are expected to meet the following criteria:

  1. The work is original and it constitutes a contribution to the field or to the theoretical framework adopted.
  2. The paper shows a clear and precise command of the subject area and of the contents which are explored within it.
  3. The text is organized in a clear and coherent way: there is a clear definition of objectives, proposals and/or hypothesis and these are coherent with the development and conclusion of the paper.
  4. The methodology and/or the theoretical framework used in the research are adequate.
  5. The literature is appropriate, sufficient and up to date.
  6. The writing is clear and the style is consistent with that of a scientific paper.
  7. The headings of the sections and subsections are appropriate (they identify the clearly differentiated parts of the articles and are coherent with the contents they introduce).
  8. The title, abstract and keywords are clear and appropriate to the contents of the text.
