Metodología cualitativa para estudiar la recepción literaria en inglés

Abstract


This work is the continuation of the research I presented at the First National Conference of Linguistics in 1991. Endeavoring to relate literature and psychology; my purpose is to develop a methodology for empirically studying literary meaning-making in English as a foreign language. I review current debates on qualitative versus quantitative educational research; especially pertaining to reading and foreign languages. Then I describe my exploratory qualitative research design; based on reader-reception studies; to observe literary responses to a science fiction short story in English by nonnative speakers. Some preliminary results with a sampling of Mexican engineering students will be discussed.
