Lectura en inglés como lengua extranjera: Conclusiones de investigación

Abstract


The results of a series of research studies related to the analysis of the main determinants of academic text processing in English in Mexican college students are presented. The first study evaluated the relative contribution of reading strategies in LI; linguistic competence in L2 and cognate perception in the explanation of reading performance in English as a foreign language. The second study; carried out in order to determine a profile of basic skills for complex learning in Mexican college students; integrated the evaluation of reading comprehension in LI and L2 as part of the set of indicators under analysis. The third study evaluated the role of reading comprehension deficits in L2 in the explanation of academic failure at a college level. Results are discussed in terms of their instructional implications.
