"Qu' est ce qui t'ammène icitte asteure?" Archaïsmes; anglicismes et innovations du francais québécois

Abstract

For centuries the francophone population from Quebec has maintained an uncommonly close and profound bound with its language. This phenomenon is best spotted within two different sociolinguistic strands: the first one related to cultural identity and the second one; concerning the status held by the dialectal variety of French in Quebec with the French of the Hexagone. This paper follows this second strand by proposing specific
differential categories - phonetic; grammatical and semantic - and historical categories - archaisms; dialectalisms; amerindianisms; and anglicisims to analyze and explain the origin of certain specific traits of Quebequian French; based on data obtained from newsprint in the last decade. Even though the use and history of the data sometimes resist a definite univoque classification; the results offer a systematic view of the synchronic
and diachronic characteristics of the corpus.
