Lidia Guzmán, Pamela Urdal

Abstract

The principal objective of this article Is to develop a model of discourse analysis that can be applied to written  texts which contain non-verbal elements; such as illustrations; tables; graphs; etc. To this purpose basic textbooks from the area of industrial design were analized. In order to develop a model of analysis the authors took as their main theoretical basis the works of Teun Van Dijk on macro-structures and macro-rules. The model develo ped proposes certain linguistic elements wich serve as evidence to the relation between the verbal and non-verbal text and guide the reader in the global comprehension of the text. These elements are exemplified and explained trough a representative text from the of industrial design.
