Eclecticismo; polémica y dogmas: un enfoque racional

Anthony M. Shaw

Abstract

This article considers the problem for the language teaching profession of fashions; polarizations and dogma s. It suggests that they arise from the tendency to polarize at the level of conventions; in contrast to the tendency to synthesize at the level of the classroom. In order to give a rational basis to this process of synthesis; and to avoid blind eclecticism; the author proposes the idea of an explicit approach; which he illustrates. The resulting approach is applied to a series of currently fashionable polarizations.
